POST ACADEMY TRAINING

The SDFD Post Academy Training (PAT) Program is designed to continue the education and testing of our Probationary Firefighters.  The program is directed through the Training and Education Division Battalion Chief and coordinated through the Battalion 7 Battalion Chiefs.  It involves several rotations through the PAT fire stations and continuous regular duty shifts throughout the city.  The PAT fire stations are currently station 10 in the SDSU community, station 44 in the Mira Mesa community, and station 51 in the Skyline community.  All 3 stations offer a variety of apparatus and equipment to train on.  Including an Engine Company, Truck Company, Brush Apparatus, Chemical Pick Up, 4 Wheel Drive Utility Truck, and Battalion Chief Vehicle.

Each Probationary Firefighter is under the supervision of 1 PAT Captain.  The PAT Captain is responsible for the training, tracking, and evaluation of their assigned firefighters.  The PAT program is 1 year in duration.  Near the end of the one year period, each Probationary Firefighter is evaluated via the Training and Education Division.  They are given both a written and manipulative exam.  Upon passing their exams, the Probationary Firefighter has now completed the PAT Program.
